Of all the different yarn weights that exist, Malabrigo lace yarn is categorized as one of the thinnest and lightest of yarns. It can be confusing to both new and veteran knitters to understand the meaning of yarn weights, but once you get it, it’s pretty straightforward. Contrast this lightweight yarn with the stronger, more robust and hearty yarn fiber weight known as worsted. But that heavier yarn won’t work if you are creating really delicate or web-like intricate items to wear like openwork scarves and pretty shawls. This is where something like Malabrigo lace yarn is perfect. To make these openwork lacy patterns in yarn, the lace yarn is often times knitted or crocheted on larger needles and hooks. As such, you might find it difficult to determine a gauge range, so your best bet is be sure you follow the gauge as specified in your pattern.

One of my favorite things to knit is socks and I would really love to be able to use cheap Malabrigo sock yarn for each and every stitch. This is a great way to expand your knowledge of different knitting yarns out there and allow you to learn even more about knitting and sock yarn in particular. I really love knitting with discount Malabrigo merino yarn for a number of reasons. It helps remind me of why I got started in the relatively cheap or inexpensive hobby of knitting and crocheting to begin with. For one thing, it’s very relaxing, and when you’re working with something as incredibly soft as the hand-dyed discount Malabrigo merino yarn, it’s extremely therapeutic and helps to melt stress away. And it’s less expensive than you might think. I can typically get a 100 gram 215 yard skein for about ten dollars. This superfine fleece is an absolute dream to knit with. It comes from the northern section of Uruguay, spun from the best Merino sheep that have been bred by generation after generation of sheep ranchers. (more…)
